I now understand anxiety — and the path out of it — thanks to the wisdom of Sydney Banks. For a long time, I couldn’t grasp why he kept saying, “Go live your life. Go meditate. Go do whatever brings you happiness.”
At first, those words seemed too simple. How could something so profound be reduced to such basic advice? But now I see the truth in them.
You can spend your life tangled in anxiety or you can step back and see anxiety for what it is — a passing state of mind, not your true self. So many people get caught in the endless search for answers, looking outside themselves for something they’ve always carried within: peace and stillness.
Fear and anxiety can feel like constant companions, so much so that letting them go seems impossible — even frightening. After all, they’ve occupied such a large space in your life. The idea of acceptance might seem strange because it leaves you with… what exactly? Time? Space? Stillness?
But that’s the beauty of it. Those simple words — “Live your life”— are a reminder to stop overcomplicating things. Stop holding onto what can’t be solved, what only drags you deeper into despair.
Instead, hold on to what truly matters: peace, stillness, and acceptance. Life can be good. Life can be simple — if you allow it to be
